  • ghindo · 1 year ago
I'm not sure I even want to try natto :(
  • Tofugu_Erin · 1 year ago
It'll make your coat nice and shiny, though.
  • Maciel · 1 year ago
    what does that mean??
"It'll make your coat nice and shiny"

and i wish i could try it, it looks good haha well with the rice yeah
  • Tofugu_Erin · 1 year ago
I said that since natto is sometimes used in pet foods, haha. If you've never had natto before, I would suggest trying it with caution :x
  • Maciel · 1 year ago
why with caution???? and what type of caution like dont breath or dont touch cause it burns or somthing??
  • Tofugu_Erin · 1 year ago
Haha, something like that. If you ever get your hands on a package of the stuff, I'm sure you'll be able to see/smell why!
  • Maciel · 1 year ago
oh ok thank you for the advice! haha
  • Fredy · 1 year ago
I'll reply to this later. Hahaha.
  • Tofugu_Erin · 1 year ago
    How much later? Haha.

I disagree with Koichi, because I actually like the way gasoline smells...
I could handle natto with rice though -- anything to sop up those wierd spiderweb-y strings that start flying off of it. Yay for natto posts!
  • Tofugu_Erin · 1 year ago
He does, too! He just doesn't think gasoline would taste all that good, I suppose, haha.
  • Hezaaa · 1 year ago
    .....good point :]
  • yonasu · 1 year ago
Natto looks kinda' weird, I remember watching some shows where even the native Japanese had trouble eating it, since it's so sticky... Maybe sticky isn't the right word for it, let's just say because of the "spiderwebby strings" like Hezaaa describes it :P

Another thing I should try though, I kinda' like the smell of gasoline, haha!
  • Tofugu_Erin · 1 year ago
That's my least-favorite part about eating natto. I always get really paranoid that the stringy things will get on my face or hair, bleh.

Is it sweet? The picture on wikipedia makes it look like its covered in caramel or something x_x~ I don't think I could ever eat beans & rice alone.
  • Tofugu_Erin · 1 year ago
It's not sweet at all! It tastes like beans, except really really concentrated. It's definitely an acquired taste, and most people either love it or hate it. I'm kind of an exception, since I can make myself like things if I think they're healthy, haha.

    I love natto
with a good amount of karashi in it
    and an egg
    and neji
  • Tofugu_Erin · 1 year ago
I always throw the karashi away, and I really dislike green onions, haha. I want to try natto + egg or natto + okra.
  • maxdesu · 1 year ago
    wut

    natto+okra, a slimey treat!
  • Tofugu_Erin · 1 year ago
I love okra! Especially on cold tofu with bonito, yum.

    Natto is terrible. >.>
(No offense to all of you natto lovers out there)

My friend's father dislikes three foods (ever):
    -Peanut Butter (wthex, right?)
-Some odd middle eastern yogurt drink.
    -Natto

    Has he tried durian?
  • WOTDsctoo · 1 year ago
    *looks up durian*

Quote from wikipedia: "The odour has led to the fruit's banishment from certain hotels and public transportation in Southeast Asia." XDD

I have no idea if he has tried it. I will have to ask him sometime.
  • Digger · 1 year ago
It probably is healthy (I think soy reduces the odds of getting certain cancers), and I do have a certain respect for it, but....*blah*. The only way I can think to describe it is that it reminds me of a marshmallow that was buried alive. Eeeewwww!

(I'm liking this site, btw. Don't know why I didn't come here before).
